Hey! #1: How Often Do You Buy Books?

I want to start a new series on my blog where I rant or maybe share or ask related or non related things about books. It’s not a review and it’s kind of a personal view on some things related to being a reader or someone who blogs about books.

So my first question is, “How often do you buy books?”

I’m from the Philippines and live in the province, I am from Bulacan (well not really that far just a 20-30minute drive from the city). I consider SM North Edsa and Trinoma as the nearest mall with decent bookstores. Yes there are malls around my place, but let’s be frank here. As a reader who likes to pile mountain of books, you will always want to be surrounded by thousands of books to choose from. I usually go to mall once a week or 3x a month, that’s usually my free time whenever I have classes. So whenever I have those chances I usually spend my time inside a bookstore, and hoard a LOT of books. I am not even sure if the way I hoard books is similar to others who have really big collections of books. I just started building my bookshelf and my friends already think I’m buying way too many books. (Is there really such a thing like “buying too many books”? I don’t think so.)

Recently, I had a chance to shop for books again and I bought 9 books. Yes, I know, maybe it’s not that many for others but for me it’s quite a lot. But the thing is, I usually buy books that are in a series. I don’t like reading book 1 and then have to wait just because I have to buy the next book in the series. I buy standalone books too but majority of the books I read are in series. But before you think that I go crazy in purchasing books, consider that I am very fond of reading book reviews and it influences me in what books to buy next.

I love books, both physical books and ebooks, but seeing my collection growing and experiencing a lot of worlds  through books is something that money can’t buy. The satisfaction of experiencing something through pages of a book is indescribable and that will make you forget how crazy you can get inside a bookstore.

So, how often do you buy books?

Happy Wednesday friends! And for readers residing in the Philippines, hello SUMMER! Open-mouthed smile

  1. I never buy books...!! I'm not even kidding. I LOVE books but I have absolutely no money to buy them. Which is why I adore arc reviewing, because my shelves grow and I look at this gorgeous wonderful things and *hugs all the books* I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. But yes, I literally buy maybe 10 books a year or something.

    1. Wow lucky you! In my case, I'm just new so I don't expect anyone to ask me for arc review. Thanks for your comment! :D

  2. I buy books when it's part of a series and I loved the first book, or when it's free on Amazon, of if I loved the book so much that an ebook won't suffice, so I buy the physical book, too! Funny, I bought books from both series from NBS, because I am going to the book tour signing!

    1. I know right, sometimes the book was too good you just need the physical book to hug. :D
Hihi actually I bought these series too for the book signing, but I'm not yet sure if I can make it to the event. :/

  3. Do freebies count? :D But I hardly buy books. I buy if it's usually really expensive in ebook and it's $0.99 or it's a box set for $0.99 and I don't have most of the book. Plus, those have to look interesting too.

    1. Hmm, I don't think freebies count :P
Before, I usually buy one book per series, but after having a hard time waiting to read the next book I decided to buy books in set.

  4. I've been told I buy too many books too often. I usually go the bookstore at least every week but I've been banning myself from spending so much on books lately. I can't seem to resist when there are sales or new releases though. It helps that being a book blogger allows me review copies but that doesn't stop me from buying books. :)

    1. I know! Book sales and new releases doesn't help when you try to ban yourself from book buying!

  5. Weekly at least, I try to be smart by requesting for ARCs or waiting for good deals and freebies. But I'm like you, I hate waiting for books to come out. I prefer to binge read instead.

    1. I started requesting ARCs too, although I know I won't be granted since I just started doing book reviews. But I hope soon I'd be given chances to receive ARCs too. :)

  6. The most I had in one day was 25 - it was my 25th birthday and I wanted 25 haha. The ex bought it for me, although I chose each book. It was a good day *thumbs up*. I don't visit bookstores that often. Gasp! I know, right? But I have so many books on my shelves right now and a lot on my tablet so I'm limiting my spending the books I really, really, really have to have.

    1. Hey, that's a good idea. Hmm hihi!
Ugh, I have a lot too on my tablet and yet I can't stop myself from buying books. And I've come up with a new excuse, "It's summer, so I need a lot of books" although I already had a mountain pile of TBRs lol
